United Nations geoscheme
The geoscheme used by the United Nations Statistics Division divides the world into "macro regions" and subregions, all in alphabetical order.
The macro-geographical regions are arranged to the extent possible according to continents. Within these groupings, more detailed component geographical regions and selected economic and other groupings are shown. The scheme was devised purely for statistical purposes and is used only for carrying out statistical analysis. According to the UN, it:
...does not imply any assumption regarding political or other affiliation of countries or territories by the United Nations.
